Thought I'd install #VirtualMin, but it ate my #MariaDB setup, tried to replace it with #MySQL, botched the installation, and I had to recover it all manually. Killed my !StatusNet daemons, had to #KickTheDaemons. Sorry for the interrupted service. !SysAdmin #Fail.

@daw I have to mention #MariaDB here :-).
-
@maiyannah @moonman Because #MySQL (and #MariaDB) sucks and the only reason people still use it is because of legacy? :)
#Postgres beats the crap out of it any day.

!GNUsocial #quitter.is was down last night due to oom-killer (out of memory). I've fiddled with the #MariaDB configuration but haven't done any super indepth analysis. Hopefully it won't explode quite the same way again though :)

@postblue There are some caches you could probably increase for #MariaDB (don't go too high or you'll oom-kill stuff like happened with #quitter.is last night). I tried enabling the Memcached plugin yesterday too, but while I didn'…

@ln5 git pull the repository, setup https and "fancy URLs" (i.e. rewrite /main/stuff to /index.php/main/stuff) and configure a #MariaDB/MySQL user + pass which you supply on installation.

Heh, I run #MariaDB via an #OpenVPN tunnle anyway. Could never be bothered to setup certificates for it.

Hm? There is #MariaDB for #Debian #Jessie. At least I'm running it and I can't remember having to add a third party repository :)

@lnxw37 And we're back. Now running current version of #MariaDB instead of #MySQL. More maintenance coming soon.

@erkanyilmaz @lg ... Also, I keep hearing that #postgresql has better recovery than #mysql / #mariadb. I'd like to try it. CC: @jonkulp

@erkanyilmaz For #MySQL or #MariaDB, I think other database-using sites / processes on the server would also matter.

Thanks. I’m still concerned that #ORCL seems to be progressively closed-sourcing #MySQL, so I’m lo…

@bobjonkman Having said that, I have barely used #MariaDB. I haven’t even migrated this #VPS from #MySQL to MariaDB yet.
