After years of wrestling Rails in order to pay the bills, I don't advocate it. However, what special server are you talking about? I normally throw Rails behind #nginx or #apache.
-
@cmhobbs what don't you like about rails?
-
Mostly the toxic community.
-
Depends on what I'm doing. Rails is fine for a lot of things but if it's very small, I'll use Sinatra or if it's just an API, I'll use Grape (if Ruby is the language required).
-
Also the 1001 gems loaded to make it run, the reliance on ActiveSupport, and the shenanigans described here: http://stephencaudill.com/blog/2010/a-diatribe-on-maintaining-state.html
-
I'm quite biased though, I really don't like web development.
-
@cmhobbs I'm glad I asked; grape looks quite interesting. Although when I'm doing something small, I simply use the webrick module so that I don't have to deal with the lousy 'gem' system.
-
Grape can be combined with Rails, as well.
-
@gomerx What kinda web app are you building? :)

@gomerx @nybill @organian My GF was a huge Daggerfall/Morrowind fan, but I have (shamefully) never played them… yet!
