ran the Spartan Turkey Trot #5k #race in 44:34 @SpartanTurkey5k!
2min/mi+ faster than 2023’s #turkeyTrot walk / slow jog of 47:37 on a shortened course (2.86mi).
Arrived early for a warm-up and it was the coldest it’s been in years (30-something F).
Alternated run/walk sessions for ~20min then jogged back to the track start area where they had moved the start since last year. Used the bathroom, and kept warming up with back/forth strides then high knees while waiting with the fam in wave 3.
Ran out at a moderate pace, and once we were on the street the cold air really to hit my lungs. Listened to music nearly the whole time. Mile 2 was my slowest but still kept it under 15min/mi (my goal pace). Ran much more than walked in the last mile, and had enough left in the tank to push a little harder the last quarter mile to the finish where I hit my highest heartrate of the race.

Yesterday I ran the Spartan Turkey Trot #5k #race in 41:42 @SpartanTurkey5k. First #turkeyTrot in a while that I ran/jogged/walked. #turkeyTrot2022
Arrived early like last year for a warm-up. Alternated run/walk sessions for ~10min then jogged back to the track start area. Got my bib, pinned it on, used the bathroom, and kept warming up with back/forth strides next to the track. Saw niece & nephew2 start in wave 1, kept warming up. Decided to start with my dad in wave 3.
Had to use the bathroom one more time, and by the time I got out, wave 3 was already off. Got stuck waiting in wave 4 (walkers & strollers). Made my way to the start then ran without pacing myself to catch my dad. Found him and decided that I’d rather stay with him and keep him company. Ran/jogged/walked the rest of the race, eventually returning to the high school track. We ran the back straight through the finish arch.

ran the Spartan Turkey Trot #5k #race in 31:13 (MV CA, 8°C). my 2nd fastest on the @SpartanTurkey5k course, and first #turkeyTrot in 4 years! A pleasant surprise.
niece(11) crushed it in 23+min, nephew2(14) in 29+min, dad in 38+min. #turkeyTrot2021
Arrived early at Mountain View High School to do a warm-up, my first “proper” warm-up before a 5k. ~10min moderate steady running, a 1min intense push, then 4x 30s strides, and walked it off.
Found my dad, niece, nephews and waited in wave 2 only a few minute before we got started.
First mile felt a lot stronger than any flat road mile I’ve run in quite some time, at least a couple of years. Passing the 1 mile marker at under 10 minutes felt really good. Paced slowed a bit, but still passed the 2 mile marker at under 20 minutes. That’s when I knew I had a chance at a 31-something time. Tried to keep pushing in the last mile or so, and it went faster than I expected.
When I reached the track for the last 300m, all my Kezar training kicked in. Gradually picked up the pace until I kicked as hard as I could on the final 100m straight, passing several, not being passed by anyone.
Stopped my watch after crossing both timing strips after the finish arch: 31:13. Official results pending. Feels like with some training I could get a sub-30 next year.
