@balleyne Firefox OS has the same problems in the Linux kernel (i.e., binary blobs) as Android, because Firefox OS uses Android's Linux. However, in the userland, Firefox OS seems to be more open (because it uses HTML5 and lots of Open Standards), and, AFAIK, one doesn't need a SDK to develop applications (as you know, Android's SDK is non-free). So in the big picture, I think Firefox OS is the best alternative we have for a Free Software phone now in the market (although, as I said, it still needs some TLC in the Linux side).
