I think they carry an extra amount of crap because it makes "difficult things" easier to understand for the "uneducated" masses.

I refuse to believe that technology is hard to grasp because people are stupid. People simply don't have the motivation or desire to grasp technology so they fall back on ignorance.

Anytime someone tells me I'm sooooo much smarter than them because I'm a programmer and that they could never program, I follow up with how much smarter than me they are because they do $JOB. I then explain that it's just a different domain of knowledge.

If more people would apply themselves, the buzzwords wouldn't exist. The desire to apply oneself isn't there, however. Until then, they'll remain alive and well.
