@eric My ProBook is only two years old, but I was dualbooting with Win7 (which I don't use much any more and recently converted to a .VHD with "Disk2VHD" from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx ); it had two LUKS encrypted partitions spanned together with LVM (one of which wouldn't mount until AFTER the OS was loaded, making it difficult to boot when the OS was hosted on it); and several smaller partitions I was using for distro-hopping. So cleanup was necessary, both for disk defragmentation and !FS philosophy.
